Busy Year already.

Woah. I can't believe that it has been almost a year since I was last on here. It has certainly been a busy 12 months. Least for me it was.

Have gone through an entire year of study, thankfully not failed a class or assignment (as far as I know) and am almost up to final exams for this semester of classes. And it is not even the beginning of what is to come.

As I sit here, writing this blog, many thoughts are running through my head. What I should be doing for one of my final assignments. Should I get started on the group one? What will come up for the exam in November??

Oh the joys of student life.

Christmas Countdown. 24 Days to go.

For the first of December, the idea of the mad rush of Christmas shopping is finally upon us. (Unless some people have already gone and done it. My hats off to you smarties) For me personally, I am a bit worried seeing as I still don't have a summer job (Yes you read right. SUMMER job. It's New Zealand people, we get summer Christmas' here if you didn't know.) and I have no income since I've finished my Tech courses for the year. Fingers crossed I get some response to the emails I send out to places for jobs.

But for now, back to the thing of Christmas shopping. I read in a local magazine the other week, on how to organise your time accordingly for the Christmas season, from the little things like getting the cards, wrapping paper, food for the day, etc. by a certain point so that there won't be any last minute fretting on Christmas Eve. I thought it was rather clever, seeing as I've never paid much attention to what my parents (mostly my mum) went through every year for my cousins and I. I don't even know how I'm going to handle it all when I move out! What will I do?!!

Least I'm going to be able to get some sort of Christmas shopping done tomorrow. Fingers crossed I don't end up going off and buying more stuff (putting it politely here) that I don't really need. I'm going to have to warn my shopping buddy to pull me away from such things or else I'll be broke till March!

That's all I got to rant about for now poppets.

Seasons Greetings

Just one more month till Christmas. WHAT TO DO & GET?!!

Un-FREAKING-believable! I still can not figure out where the time has gone. What is it that makes the year go faster than it should? Is someone putting all my clocks and calenders forward by weeks? If so, please stop! My time perspective is already shocking as it is!

Yes people! Christmas is almost upon us, and I'm sure some of you (like me! :O) are stuck on what kind of presents to get people you love and care about. Even with the helpful hint of asking them, if the list is long (or expensive) you wonder which thing to get more than anything else, until you give up and end up giving a gift voucher/card with the all to typical saying, "Go get whatever you want with that. Enjoy!" Not that I'd complain, money is all good in the right amount. (haha)

I have to admit, by the time I was sixteen, I knew what I was hoping to get (thought I'd be polite and not say 'wanting', since my mama told me "I want gets you nowhere.") and got it plus a few things more. Now, it's like all the good stuff has been gotten and there isn't really anything new out there. Maybe I'm just getting old(er) and more mature (NOT!)

Although, ever since I went up north with my partner, he and I are both now liking the idea of getting a eReader. We both enjoy to read, but we also have a bad habit that comes with reading; a large build up of books around the room/house. He has told that he once had around two hundred books in his collection before he cut them back. 200 books?! I dread to think of what kind of storage he had before now.

But of course, with an eReader all the storage problems that comes with many books is thrown out the window. I am really liking the idea of having something the size of a DVD case with a memory able to hold up to twelve hundred books! And that is without any added memory to the device. Yes please. Just needing to find my favourite books in eBook version and wait.

Well, that is my rant for Christmas. Least for now.

Happy Holidays and Seasons Greetings to all.

CLASS. IS. OUT!!

I can't believe it. Today is the 16th of November and my classes at my Polytech are actually over! It only feels like yesterday that I was only just getting to know everyone's names. Where has all that time gone?!

I'll admit, the last six months have been amazing and life changing. If I had not applied for the course, not only would I of not made new friends and connections, but I would not be on this site writing this blog about it all.

As with most things, you start to think 'Oh no, I can't do this sh*t anymore. I want out!' and I know I did several times, but once all things were done and dusted, I strangely could of and would of done it all again. One major plus for this course I did, was of course NO EXAMS! WOOO! Just eleven assignments over the sixteen weeks we had class, and some were done in groups as well, so they weren't too bad.

Now all there is to do now till the new semester starts next year (on the 7th of March 2011 - due to the Rugby World Cup that year) is sit back in the sun with a good book and wait for all the marks to come back and hear that the application I sent in for next year has been accepted.

Woot Woot! Fingers crossed guys and gals

Peace out and Happy Holidays to all.

Proud of all things Kiwi! (Outrageous rant.... of sorts)

Being from such a small country such as New Zealand, there is no doubt a lot of influence from all over the world about who, what and how we live as a nation. For example, back before the time of Peter Jackson and the Lord of the Rings films, most people would think that New Zealand was just another small set of islands that were part of the country of Australia.

Nooooo!! If you don't know by now, New Zealand has their own independent government, people, and currency from the country of Australia. And just as I'm sure some American's don't like being called Canadian (as well as vice-versa - Canadian's being called American) it is very much the same deal between New Zealanders and Australians.

But anyway, that's not why I'm writing this (other than the fact nothing else came to mind out of my boredom. Haha!) As I write, I am watching a now New Zealand television series classic: Outrageous Fortune, out of my vast DVD collection and am amazed that no one else can seem to portray the West family justice. Not that I'm dissing the attempts, they are not all bad, but it's like an original movie, or even a recipe from your mum's old cook book; you can never quite get the second go as good as the first original.

I've seen bits and pieces of both the versions recently shown in the States (Scoundrels - first aired:  20-06-2010) and in the UK (Honest - first aired: 9-01-2008) and so far both have only seen first season glory; while OF is reaching the end of it's sixth and now final season. Though, I will be keeping eyes and ears out if something comes up with them and suddenly say what I know will happen.

The one thing that keeps me watching Outrageous every weeknight, is the fact that it feels.... humanly normal. For example, though the actors are obviously wearing make-up (or done up) for the cameras, they still keep a look about them that does not scream 'FAKE!' or 'PLASTIC'. Even some of the characters sometimes surprise me at times. When you think they are going one way, they all of a sudden show something new and your mind haults and goes in another direction (least for a while), but of course, I won't go into details if there are people who read this and don't want to know what is going on right now.

Onto another note, seeing as it is the final season of Outrageous Fortune, I have posted a video collaboration onto my YouTube account, hoping that if some people see it, they can join in and be a part of a collab video.

This is the link to the video. I'm pretty proud of it and would love to have some people join it.    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGeDtcvPgyg

Favourite Scene Analysis

It's taken me a while to get this blog up, but near the beginning of the semester for Interpreting Media, we were told to show the class our favourite scene from a movie we like and why.

My scene was from the musical Jesus Christ Superstar, the first film version of the stage show.

As I said before, this film is a adaptation of the rock opera stage show by the same name. It was written by Norman Jewison and Melvyn Bragg, which the first was also a Producer and the Director. It was originally based on the music written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and the lyrics by Tim Rice.

When it first came out there was a lot of controversy from religious groups when it first came out as the stageshow in 1971 with them saying the lack of the resurrection, having Jesus seem a mere man and interested in sex blasphemous.

There have been a few remakes as well, but in my opinion, not as good as this first one. Instead of it looking like a actual stage show, the cast and crew went out on location and filmed it in Israel, most notably at the ruins of Avdat as well as other Middle Eastern locations.

Anyway, my favourite scene is right near the end. The song is named after the stage show itself 'Jesus Christ Superstar'. Judas is seen coming down on a 'silver cross' and asking Jesus about who he is and thinking on if he had returned as the Messiah, would His word of spread more. I really like how they had the extras/dancers dressed in this part. Looking very disco clothing and hair style, which was the fashion of the seventies. (or as far as I know)

** I love this scene out of the whole film, probably due to the amount of dancing there is in it, as well as the tone of the music, considering the backstory. It has such an amazing rhythm I am just tempted almost every time to get up and dance along with the people on the screen, as well as singing. (as long as no one else is watching or listening to me) **

Favourite Film (current)

I have to say that, like so many others out there, I could not just name one film as my all time favourite. There are just so many out there that I like, love and just enjoy watching (as well as hate, despise and would gouge my eyes out if I saw it again) but at the moment, one of the ones I liked watching was "Marley and Me".

It shows a family's bond with a crazy, wild and uncontrollable (least that is in my opinion) dog, but they all love him no matter what, just as he adores the family. Being based on a book, I sometimes get weary of, seeing as the film doesn't always stay true to the book, but this one had me watching, laughing and crying all the way through; especially at the end.

Not to add any spoilers if no one has seen it, but I know how sad it is to lose a loving family pet; my parents had a cat before I came around and I just adored her to bits till the day she was not there to greet me when I came home from school anymore. But, anywho, the film on a whole is to me an awesome view of the lifespan of a beloved pet and how it makes an impact to a family. Fond memories all around are gained and treasured, no matter how much crazy shit the pet gets up to, as well as the family, of course.

I have also found the trailer of the film. As John Grogen (Wilson) says at the end, 'give them your heart, and they'll give you theirs.' Enjoy, and treasure your pets!

Goodnight Sweetheart

When I was younger, I use to watch the movie Three Men and A Baby. The part I always liked the most was when all three men (for the life of me, I cannot remember the characters names in the movie) were all in Mary's room (the baby) and they sung her to sleep. I tried finding the clip on youtube and darn it, it wasn't there.

But, I found the original song; which is sung by a band called The Spaniels. (makes me think of Cocker Spaniel dogs then.... off track, sorry) Anyway, heres the video. Enjoy!

The Mom Song

This is for all the mums out there that say at least one of the lyrics to their children. Just for a good laugh.

I really do not where to begin with this clip. I just find all the lyrics so highly amusing. Every time I watch or listen to it I am smiling and trying not to laugh. I guess the fact that these are sung to a well known tune (which reminds me so much of a horse race, for some reason) and everyone would at least remember their own mother saying these to them is part of it.

If I had to say the funniest part would be when the woman says 'And if all your friends, jumped off a cliff, would you jump too? ..... stop crying or I'll give you something REAL to cry about!', least to me anyway as I don't think I've heard a mum say that to her kids, unless it was in a movie or something. Then she goes into the calm and loving tone of a mother.

It is just such a catchy little clip, I had to pass it on, like a virus. But much more entertaining.
